(CNN) — Some people set records by jumping the highest or running the fastest. But for Jessica Nabongo, a UN employee turned travel blogger, it’s by becoming the first black woman of African descent to visit every country on Earth and document it. Having already been to 60 countries, in 2016 she set out to visit all 193 countries in the world. On October 6, she claimed on her Instagram page to have arrived at the last on her list, Seychelles. “Welcome to the Seychelles!! Country 195 of 195! So…

The award-winning photo that could keep rhinos alive

(CNN) — It’s a shocking image: A huge rhinoceros pinned to the ground while a grimacing man shreds a power saw through its horn, white shards shooting off in a blur of high speed. The photograph, taken by 20-year-old student Neville Kgaugelo Ngomane, shows the radical lengths that are now being taken to protect vulnerable rhinos from the poachers who hunt them down for their horns. Though it seems cruel, this is now a standard practice in some parts of Africa to keep rhinos alive. Robbed of the horns that…

However, after a team of researchers from London’s Natural History Museum and the University of Witwatersrand reassessed the specimen, they realized the bones and skull belonged to an entirely…

Life inside the world’s worst traffic jam

Welcome to traffic and travel Lagos-style, where the roads are clogged and millions of commuters are choked with frustration about the daily hassle in Nigeria’s commercial capital and Africa’s fifth largest economy. The city is unhealthily crowded. Despite being the smallest state in…

On Sunday, President Trump used a variation of the insult to tell four congresswomen in a series of tweets to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”…
