Broadchurch actor Shaun Dooley’s odds for Christmas number one are slashed

What better star is there to sit at the top of the festive charts this Christmas than Broadchurch’s “slimy, horrible murderer”?

Bookies have slashed odds on Broadchurch actor Shaun Dooley

claiming the coveted No1 single spot with a cover of Taylor Swift ’s Never Grow Up, after the singer gave the track her endorsement.

Shaun’s version appears on an album of covers recorded for Children In Need which also includes tracks by Suranne Jones, Olivia Colman and Himesh Patel.

Global superstar Taylor, 29, even popped in during the recording session at Abbey Road Studios in London.

“She went, ‘I’m a massive Broadchurch fan’,” recalls Shaun.

“I got scared because I play a horrible character. She must have been expecting to meet this slimy, horrible murderer singing her beautiful song.”

With William Hill offering odds of 10/1, Shaun couldn’t resist having a flutter on himself.

“I put a tenner on and if this comes in, I’ll give £100 back to Children In Need,” he says.

“What is really strange is to look at that list of names and go: Wham!, then me?”

Nobody remind him last year’s Xmas No1 was a vlogger singing about sausage rolls.

The Christmas number 1 will be the song that is top of the charts when the last top 40 before Christmas is revealed on Friday, December 20.

The Children In Need album, titled We Got It Covered, features ten British actors singing a track each, inspired by their own lives.
