As an accomplished England rugby star, James Haskell is not a man who likes to lose.
Indeed, his stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here
And nothing riles him more than dithering over the Dingo Dollar challenge answer!
But one of the darkest points in his life came when he had a very public bust-up with on-off girlfriend of four years, Felicia Field-Hall, in 2009.
James, 34, accused his FHM High Street Honey ex of shacking up with tennis coach Romain Girbal, and allegedly sent threatening messages to his rival on Facebook .
James fled to France after the drama, moving to Paris giants Stade Francais from Wasps in 2009 after a string of off-the-field foul-ups.
Eager to “start afresh”, he told The Mirror: “I started with a clean slate over there. Over here a lot of things had been written about me, I had done a lot to encourage it because of various things.
“Starting afresh over there was pretty good. People accepted me for what I was and I could lead by my playing, as opposed to my talking.
“When you are 24, like I was at the time, you are full of confidence and loving life.
“Every year you think you have got it cracked. It only takes time to look back and realise I didn’t necessarily realise what I was doing on the field in my position – and my personal life was a little bit all over the shop.
“So to go over there to calm down was pretty good. I wanted to go there and work and focus and stay away from the limelight.”
James is now happily married to Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan’s daughter Chloe.
