Vincent Kompany has confirmed he will play no part in his own testimonial.
Kompany, 33, is set to bid an emotional farewell to the Etihad on Wednesday night when a Manchester City Legends side faces a team made up of Premier League all stars.
But the Anderlecht player-manager has announced he will not play due to a thigh problem.
Kompany was forced off in Anderlecht’s victory over Genk before the international break and has not recovered in time.
Speaking to the media before the match, he said: “Unfortunately, I won’t be starting tonight or playing.
“It’s typical of me, I’ve got a slight hamstring injury so I couldn’t risk it tonight but there’s a low of awesome players.
“It’s a celebration to say goodbye and I don’t have to be on the pitch. It’s for an unbelievable cause.”
